Teresa Shyr has a tremendous desire to bring art and music to communities that otherwise may not have had the opportunity to experience it. This has influenced her to pursue a dual degree, a bachelor of music in Music Education at the Eastman School of Music and a bachelor of arts degree in Art History at the University of Rochester.
Teresa has worked with the Creative Workshop at the University of Rochester’s Memorial Art Gallery to gain an understanding of how inner-city elementary school students can benefit from learning about and making art. She also worked with Chicago’s non-profit organization, IPaintMyMind, with the goal of installing art in all public spaces of every ward in the city, striving to install art that is meaningful to each specific community.
Teresa’s work to make art accessible to all was inspired by hearing some individuals say they felt like they didn’t belong in a museum or concert hall. Her work is devoted to making art accessible to everyone, through whatever medium it takes.
